The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Learning has promoted Kennesaw State University from a master’s university to a doctoral research institution with moderate research activity.
Doctoral research institutions, according to the Carnegie classifications, must award at least 20 research or scholarship doctoral degrees over the course of one year. In 2015, KSU awarded 40 doctoral degrees.
“The upgrade in the Carnegie Classification signals exciting prospects for the advancement of research and scholarship at Kennesaw State,” President Daniel S. Papp said in a press release.
“It opens the door for more faculty research grants, greater support for students pursuing doctoral degrees and further development of our doctoral programs. It is a very significant milestone,” he said.
