Haunted House Length: About 30 minutes

I initially had no idea what to expect upon my arrival to Chambers of Horror. I had never been to a haunted house before and since this was an 18 and up event, I was unsure of what exactly made that requirement. For the other guest in my party, the ticket ended up being $16, after promotional codes were applied. Tip – Take advantage of the promo codes they advertise on their Facebook and Twitter. There is also a social media discount of up to $1.50 if you share the ticket link to your social media platforms.

Parking was not well advertised, so I ended up parking on a random street relatively near The Masquerade. Since I was in a party of two, we ended up skipping the line and joining two other couples, making it a total of six people. Only six people are taken through the chamber, so be sure to go in a smaller party if you do not want to be separated. When I asked what made the show 18 and up, I was told, “What makes us different than other haunted houses is that we like to mix a little bit of humor, mainly sexual, between the screams. Just wait and see, you’ll understand what I mean,” event actress, Elena de Soto, said.

My group and I were briefed on the story line prior to entering the building. This story line this year involved a virus crippling the human population which was transmitted by sexual intercourse with an alien. To say I was not expecting that was a bit of an understatement.

We entered the first chamber and it was incredibly dark. The actors are not allowed to touch you, but they can get as close to you as they please. We were all drilled on who in our group was infected, and then a man carrying a fully functional chainsaw dripping blood started leading our group to get the “cure.” Suddenly, the crazed chainsaw was shot dead by a heroine of sorts. That started the 20-30 minute journey through different rooms of the Chambers of Horror.

If you can handle dark, sexual humor, I highly recommend this place. There are a lot of elements of nudity and sex, and my group laughed about half of the time because some of the elements were so ridiculous.

It isn’t all humor though. There were moments when I was definitely caught by surprise and screamed. The scariest moment for me was when I standing in the wrong place at the wrong time, and a giant, moving alligator – although fake – popped out from a hidden curtain and knocked me straight on my rear. Or when a demonic figure popped out of the darkness to snarl in my ear.

If you are comfortable and liberal enough, I recommend this place for you. It is truly an experience.
