Quarterback Jaquez Parks left the Kennesaw State football team this morning.
Parks notified head coach Brian Bohannon that he was leaving the program this morning before the team’s final full-pad practice of the spring.
“This morning he chose that this wasn’t the right fit for him,” Bohannon said. “He’s going to go elsewhere at the end of the semester.”
Parks announced his decision just six days following a suspension for violation of team rules. Parks and teammates Trey Chivers, running back, and Brett Gillespie, offensive lineman, were all suspended for the Black and Gold spring game this Saturday, March 28.
Bohannon felt like he could see growing disinterest from Parks. “Just his demeanor and the way he carries himself, you could kind of tell,” Bohannon said. “I had a feeling yeah. He’s not the first, and he won’t be the last.”
The former Griffin High School standout was in the middle of a tight quarterback competition for the Owls and was taking first team reps during the team’s scrimmage March 14.
“This was on his own accord, not on ours,” Bohannon said. “Nothing was forced, it was his decision and for whatever reason he didn’t feel like this was the right fit for him.”
Parks was the former Georgia Sportswriters Association High School Player of the year in 2013 for his senior year when he threw for 3,640 yards and 28 touchdowns and rushed for 1,329 yards and 17 touchdowns.
