This week’s episode begins with Annalise drowning her sorrows in cheap, minibar liquor at a hotel while eating room service food alone from Christmas Day through New Year’s Day. She finally heads home from her trip to see Hannah, Sam’s sister, waiting for her. Annalise tries to convince Hannah with a box full of evidence that Sam is a bad guy and is guilty of killing Lila. Michaela, Wes, Connor and Laurel are unsure about how to act around one another and seem distant. Flashbacks throughout the episode show how each of the four law students spent their holiday break, and show that they are all struggling with the realization that they killed Sam.
While everyone is focused on Sam, a woman named Jackie comes in and reveals that her husband has two girls locked in his basement, and one is about to give birth. The girls are saved and testify that Jackie tried to help them. Jackie admits to drugging them so they wouldn’t remember anything. Wes finds evidence that Jackie is hiding a four-year-old girl she claimed was a stillborn of one of the girls. Without a plea bargain, Jackie won’t give up the location. Annalise tricks her, the girl is found, and Jackie realizes she doesn’t have a deal. Annalise drops her as a client.
Annalise finally sits down with Hannah and tells her some of the truth about Sam and that she tried to cover his tracks and protect him for as long as she could. Hannah begins to believe her. At the end of the episode, it is revealed that the body of Sam Keating has been found in a landfill.
