The new Executive Director of Auxiliary Services and Programs, Randall Shelton, will take command starting Aug. 17.
Shelton said his experience includes management in programs at Oklahoma State University, Wichita State University, Georgetown College, Ohio University and Northeastern State University.
“My first objective will be to get to know the students, faculty, staff and administration. I want to learn from their input,” Shelton said. Shelton said he hopes to create a strategic plan to “develop [ASaP] into a ‘world class’ program.”
Programs that ASaP oversees include the KSU Bookstore, Card Services, Copy and Print Services, Culinary and Hospitality and Parking and Transportation. Each service has its own director and is operated as a separate business, but ASaP oversees them all.
Associate Vice President for Operations, Maria Britt, said part of the hiring process included a call between Shelton and the office of the vice president for Operations.
“[Shelton] has over 30 years of experience in college and university administration and private sector business ownership and will be a great addition to the KSU campus team,” Britt said. “He will provide outstanding leadership and continue to improve customer service and products provided by programs [within ASaP].”
Britt said a search committee was formed to review more than a hundred applications and choose several to be interviewed. The committee included representation from Student Government Association, Student Success, Facilities, Information Technology Services, Controller, Provost and Human Resources.
After many interviews, three candidates were chosen for the final interview process.
“Each candidate finalist went through a campus tour, met the ASaP team, had lunch with the Student Success leaders, met with SGA students and had an office call with the vice president for Operations. Each finalist was considered for student focus, skill set, leadership and management, creativity, communication skills, values and ethics, and collaboration,” said Britt.
Students were involved with the hiring process every step of the way.
“The students were candid and enthusiastic about participating in the process. Their input was very valuable in making the final decision,” said Britt.
Shelton said he hopes that students will feel welcome to give their input about ASaP.
“I would like to let students know that my door is open. I need their feedback and input to allow ASaP to better serve their needs and to continually improve,” said Shelton.
