KSU’s men’s golf team finished at a respectable fourth place in the Linger Longer Invitational at the Great Waters Course at Reynold’s Plantation in Greensboro, GA., this weekend.
The Owls, ranked 46th in the nation in the latest poll, beat out higher ranked Oklahoma (27) and Liberty (31).
KSU finished with a final line of +9, going +7 on the final day of play.
Senior Jeff Karlsson lead the tournament field after the first two rounds with scores of 67 and 72 in the first day. Karlsson finished with a final score of -3, which was good enough for an 8th place finish.
Fellow senior Matt Nagy did not follow far behind. Nagy shot -2 for the weekend with a line of 70-71-73.
KSU’s Jonathan Klotz, Jimmy Beck, and Kelby Burton finished with scores of +6, +9, and +18, respectively.
Alabama won the title, finishing with an impressive -26, that included a -14 score on the final day.
Georgia finished modestly behind at -12. Georgia and Alabama were the only teams to finish with negative stat lines at the end of the tournament.
The Bulldogs and Crimson Tide were also represented in the individual standings. Alabama’s Cory Whitsett and Georgia’s Nick Reach went into a four-hole playoff, with Whitsett taking the individual title with a -8 performance on the final day.
KSU held up well in a talented field that included five ranked opponents. The Black and Gold’s 4th place finish was its fourth top-five finish of the year.
The Owls have first place finishes in the Rees Jones Intercollegiate and the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate.
KSU is expected to make a strong run in defending its conference title. The Owls will play in the Memphis Intercollegiate on April 9 and 10 before gearing up for the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship on April 16 in Braselton, GA.
