KSU men’s and women’s rugby teams have both experienced the lows and highs of the sport this month. The men’s team has seen two wins and two losses, while the girls had a win and a loss during the month.

The men’s team lost heavily to Georgia Southern with a de- pleted team in Statesboro on Feb. 11 to record their first defeat of the season. A powerful 37 point demolition of Georgia Tech, on Feb. 14 at KSU, helped the Owls regroup, before again falling to the highly recognized Arkansas State University on Feb 18.

Last weekend the students turned in a promising performance by inflicting a 51-7 vic- tory over Emory at home to skip back to the conference lead. The coaching staff has been mov- ing players around to find their best positions, which proved very fruitful, with the discovery of certain players being better suited to those positions.

Marcus Medina, who has moved to flyhalf, has shown out- standing ball skills, and Austin Collins’ move to inside center netted him two long range trys on the weekend.

Senior James Pennamen trans- ferred from the backline to the forward, and gave an outstanding performance of power running to score two excellent trys as well. Former loose forward Edward

Miene shifted back into the tight five engine room and produced a tough effort at lock.

Englishman, and senior, Jamie Postle scored from his own inventiveness after a set lineout play.

The team travels to Nashville next weekend to play Middle Tennessee State in a critical game that could well decide the playoff fortunes of both teams.

The women’s rugby team, which contested the playoffs last year, also have had a mixed start to the year with a heavy loss to North Georgia College earlier in the month and an emphatic 45 point victory at home last Satur- day against the Emory women.
