Women’s basketball ends three-game losing streak on alumni night

The Owls honored their school legends by ending a three-game losing skid with a victory over North Alabama on Jan. 29, Kennesaw State’s Alumni Night.

Gabi Legister started with eight points and a rebound, shooting three-of-five from the floor. Bre’lyn Snipes dominated the boards early, as well, with four rebounds in the quarter. Jah’Che Whitfield had a massive block on a North Alabama layup attempt in the first quarter, as well as two points and a rebound. She also had an assist in the quarter to keep the game within a two-point deficit as the first quarter closed with the opposition up 10-12.

The Owls went on a 12-4 run to control the second quarter, led by Alexis Poole and her eight points. The defense stood their ground as well, holding North Alabama scoreless through the first half of the second quarter. North Alabama would be held to just 10 points in the frame, with KSU taking a 26-22 lead into halftime. 

The Owls came out in the second half right where they left off, playing elite defense and forcing two quick turnovers to start the third quarter on a 6-0 run. Poole dominated the boards yet again in the third quarter, posting four points and four rebounds. Amani Johnson put up nine points on four successful baskets in the quarter. 

The game concluded with a decisive 13-point victory over North Alabama. Amani Johnson led the team with 18 points, four assists and five steals while also adding three rebounds. Poole dominated the post with 16 points, eight rebounds and added a steal. Gillian Piccolino lead the team with two total blocks.

The Owls will have a short road trip with their next game being on Feb. 3 at Eastern Kentucky at 5 p.m.
