Driving tour story map helps you experience historic sites in Cobb

(Press release) – It is often said that without history, there would be no future. Now you have a fun and informative way to explore the rich history of Cobb County. Located in the rapidly-growing metro Atlanta region, Cobb boasts numerous historic buildings and sites. The Cobb County Historic Driving Tour highlights historic gems in the six cities of Marietta, Acworth, Kennesaw, Austell, Powder Springs, Smyrna and unincorporated areas.

“Cobb County Information Services Department staff has worked diligently over the past year to help convert the driving tour pamphlet into a digital story map,” Jennifer Lana, GIS manager, said. “The publicly-accessible digital map can be used on mobile devices, tablets and desktop computers. This driving tour story map provides new functionality and capability using the power of digital maps and geography to explore historic areas.”

You can use this helpful tool to plan out your entire driving tour excursion.  The in-depth map highlights three different tour routes, designated by color, and all originate at the Marietta Welcome Center, 4 Depot St., Marietta. Each virtual tour stop includes a beautiful photo of the site, as well as historic information and hours of operation if the site is open to the public. Since the driving tour story map is available on smartphones and tablets, you can use it as you drive from one historic destination to another.
