At approximately 2 p.m., KSU police dispatch received a call about a suspicious man with a possible weapon in his pocket.

Police armed with assault rifles and K9 units promptly began a campus wide search for the individual on foot and by motorcycle in attempts to locate the suspect. BOB transportation stopped and traffic was not permitted on or off of campus during the shutdown.

A KSU alert was sent via text and email advising both students and faculty to “shelter in and lock the door.” Many students reportedly did not get the KSU alert until twenty minutes after the suspect was spotted.

“I was on my way to campus when I received a notification on my phone at 2:20 p.m. saying there were reports of an armed man on campus and that the school was on lock-down,” said junior communication major, Nick Stevens. “I decided to stay as far away from campus as possible.”

After an intensified search throughout the school grounds, police located the individual with a cell phone in his pocket and confirmed he did not possess a weapon and that no threat was imposed on the community.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., police issued the all-clear and the lock-down was lifted.
